ADS Unveils Somewhat Familiar Camouflage

ADS, as partnered with Guy Cramer, has recently unveiled their new camouflage that has been entered into the camouflage improvement effort put forward by the US Army. You can read an article about it on Soldier Systems here.

Hey, remember how Guy Cramer was suing DCS, saying that A-TACS FG was essentially a duplicate of his patterns? Remember how everyone scratched their heads and wondered where exactly the similarity was?

Camouflage in Video Games: Battlefield 3's Pattern Options

A recent video leaked on to Youtube (presumably from one of those that received the game before they were supposed), and gives some insight into patterns used in Battlefield 3. Some are quite... interesting.

There's little doubt in my mind that that's SURPAT. Which I find odd, as I'm one of the few people on the internet that's written about it. Perhaps someone at DICE 3 is a camophile?

Crypsis Update

If you don't know what Crypsis is, feel free to read this. Short story is: Crypsis is the company that I (Connor) have started, which will eventually serve as a complete camouflage solution for paintballers, airsofters, hunters and everyone else spending their weekends hiding in the bush.

Canada Post Strike:

I've tried to remain optimistic about the strike up to this point, but it looks like it's here to stay, at least for a couple weeks. Rotating strikes won't cripple Canada Post, but a full strike would. As it is not only the cheapest but also a duty free option for American customers, it was my first choice for a shipping provider. For now it will remain as such, but that may need to be re-evaluated. I've decided that I won't let it ruin my month, and the Crypsis site will hopefully go live very soon (barring any unforeseen setbacks).

Spring Camouflage

Is your fall camouflage no longer keeping you hidden? As people head back to their local paintball and airsoft fields this spring, keep in mind how the effectiveness of your camouflage may change. Here are what I consider some prime camouflage choices for spring in non-arctic Canada and the northern United States:

I know, I already used SURPAT as a choice for Fall, but this is a prime camouflage for the transition backwards and forward from Summer to Winter here in Canada. In my opinion, it greatly outperforms CADPAT when you're not surrounded by lush greenery, but still have lots of sprouting foliage around.

MultiCam vs. MultiSham - Part 1

MultiCam has become a very popular camouflage pattern among Milsim paintball players in recent years, and is sure to become even more popular with the exposure it'll get when US Army soldiers are seen wearing it regularly on the evening news:

Now, MultiCam isn't the prettiest pattern to look at up close. I've personally nicknamed it "Vomitcam" myself, and some have compared it to "wearing dirt", but there's no denying its versatility for Woodsball. The problem with some modern camouflage patterns like CADPAT is that they rely heavily on dark green for blending into deep woods. But paintball fields, which have usually been cleared of a lot of vegetation, and have been heavily traveled by people on foot, tend to favour lighter patterns.

And the Soviet Commander for Fulda Gap 2010 is...

Good morning masses! I hope you are preparing yourself for the upcoming engagement in the Fulda Gap. This year, the glorious Soviet contingent shall be commanded by none other than...

Forecast of Krinkovs is high, with a chance of SURPAT. If you are unfamiliar with Doug Brown, check out a recent story from The Catshack Reports.

SURPAT Introduction - Camouflage Week

Update (June 10th 2011) - SURPAT now available on Crypsis.ca: click me!

Back in mid March, I mentioned that I was going to try and get my hands on some SURPAT, and try it out up here in the Great White North. Well I've done just that, and while I've only had it a short time and haven't tried it out to a great extent, I do have some photos from the woods/marshland at the end of my street.

Survival Corps has confirmed with me that this is the only SURPAT thus far in Canada, and to my knowledge, I'm the only third party on the internet to have media of SURPAT up.

I'll try and get some comparison shots up between this and other popular patterns over the next week, and if anyone has any requests (such as seeing SURPAT in a specific environment) leave a comment here or email me.

SURPAT Camouflage Pattern

Update (June 10th 2011) - SURPAT now available on Crypsis.ca: click me!

Developed by Survival Corps, the SURPAT (SURvival PATtern) camouflage pattern is designed for use in mountainous, urban and forested areas in Russia. It is currently in use with the Police and Federal Security Service of Russia.

Given many of the geographical similarities, I would guess that SURPAT would be effective in Canada as well, especially during the fall or spring seasons. If I can I'll try and get my hands on some and see how it performs in the great white (western) north, possibly comparing it to CADPAT.
