Ottawa Milsim Coalition Shuts Down For 2011

Those who've attended the 2 OMC events held so far this year, "The Sword" and "Eagle Down", were told that there would be 2 more events held in the Ottawa area this season. Originally, that's what was planned - "The Battle For Colombia" and "Blood Diamonds", held in October and November respectively, would have closed out our 2011 lineup. Unfortunately, both GREEN_MACHINE and I are facing substantial time constraints over the next 2 months, and the outlook for 2011 OMC events is looking bleak.

Ottawa Milsim Coalition Event: "Eagle Down" Last-Minute Details!

**BREAKING NEWS**

CANADIAN PRESS - Anonymous sources at Camp Vigilance in Greece have confirmed that Canadian ground combat troops landed at the base this morning, and may be taking part in an operation in the nearby Republic of Krajnika.

Sources stated that a platoon of special operations soldiers touched down at the base in a Canadian Forces jet at dawn. At this time their mission is not known, but it is believed that their arrival is related to the crash of a CF-18 aircraft on Monday afternoon. Canadian Forces spokesman Major General Dave Hogan confirmed that the aircraft, taking part in NATO's Operation Overwatch in Krajnika, had gone down. But he denied that the plane had been shot down by Krajnik air defences, as was reported by Krajnik State Television.

More to come as this story develops.

*********

For full details on the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event on Wednesday August 24th, "Eagle Down", refer to this post.

It's come to my attention that the directions on the Kijiji.ca listing for the event are wrong, so here are the proper directions to Carnage Paintball:

From Highway 417, take exit 79 for Limoges (the one for the Calypso water park) and head South. After about 2 minutes of driving, you'll come to an intersection with a gas station on your left. Turn left here, drive for another minute, and you'll see Carnage Paintball on your left.

The safety and rules briefing kicks off at 6pm sharp! Please be on time, since we'll be playing with limited daylight left. To fully enjoy the game, be sure to bring some sort of anti-fog for your goggles (humidity will be pretty high), and insect repellent is a must this time of year!

Action Gear Canada, Crypsis.ca, and Carnage Paintball have graciously donated prizes for this event, so 15+ people will be going home with something new for their gear bags!

Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Department of National Defence officials have confirmed a report that a NATO aircraft went down over the Republic of Krajnika, and confirmed that the aircraft was a Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet.

"The status of the pilot is unknown at this time, but we do know he managed to eject", stated Major General Dave Hogan at a press conference this evening. "Right now the best intelligence we have tells us that neither Krajnik nor Doldovan forces have made contact with him". Hogan further stated that the terrain where the aircraft is believed to have gone down was difficult to reach by land, and that ongoing bad weather had made an airbourne search and rescue attempt difficult.

"Our first priority at this time is our pilot, and we're doing everything we can to locate him and get him back".

Canada has been participating in NATO's Operation Overwatch since mid-June, when evidence surfaced that Krajnik government soldiers were conducting "ethnic cleansing" operations against the Doldovan minority. The two sides have been engaged in a brutal civil war since January. Hogan would not confirm that the aircraft had been shot down by Krajnik forces, but pointed out that NATO bombings have heavily targeted the Republic's air defence network, and that most or all of it has been decimated.

"As far as we know the Republic of Krajnika has no SAM sites left, and if there's still one out there, that's news to us".

Complicating the issue is the recent announcement that CF-18s engaged in NATO's action are now equipped with the Canadian-made FEARS technology. The surveillance technology used in the Full-Enhancement Aerial Reconnaissance System would be highly sought-after by China and Russia. A DND official who wished to remain anonymous told Canadian Press that there were concerns that if the Krajnik government managed to obtain the technology, they would turn it over to one of those powers. A secondary concern is that the Krajnik government would keep the system instead, and use it as leverage to obtain advantages in peace negotiations currently underway at the United Nations.

To get in on the action, be there at the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event, "Eagle Down", on Wednesday, August 24th at Carnage Paintball! Details on the event can be found here. And if you believe this is a real news report, click here.

The scenario will feature small-unit missions and objectives, military-style tactics, a limited-ammo format, and PRIZES! Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Republic of Krajnika State Television announced today that it had shot down a NATO aircraft taking part in Operation Overwatch. Translated from Old East Slavic, the communique stated:

"Comrades of this great nation, today the glorious soldiers of our air defence brigades scored a great victory for the Republic. A cowardly aggressor invading our airspace was brought down by their missiles and guns, and he will drop bombs on us no more. The aggressors have been shown that their interference in our sovereign affairs will not be tolerated, and that our armed forces will defeat them. Today marks a new chapter in the defence of our nation".

NATO spokespersons denied that any aircraft taking part in the operation over the Republic of Krajnika had been lost, with one stating "All of our aircraft and pilots have been accounted for. This appears to be more propaganda on the part of the Krajniks".

NATO's Operation Overwatch has been ongoing over Krajnika since June, after evidence surfaced that government soldiers were taking part in "ethnic cleansing" operations against civilians of the Doldovan minority during the country's civil war. The operation consists of patrolling a no-fly zone, as well as bombing air defences and military forces engaging in actions against civilians.

Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Department of National Defence officials announced today the fielding of an advanced sensor and image capture package on all Canadian CF-18 Hornet fighter jets in service.

Canadian Forces Major General Dave Hogan held a press conference today, to hail the implementation of the Canadian-made Full-Enhancement Aerial Reconnaissance System (FEARS) on its planes.

"The future is here, and it's FEARS" announced Hogan. "This system demonstrates the will of the Government of Canada and the Canadian Forces to be a technology leader among our allies".

Hogan added that the FEARS modules would be transferred to the Joint Strike Fighter fleet when delivery of the JSF planes begins in 2016.

Although the exact capabilities of the FEARS package are classified, a DND official wishing to remain anonymous previously described it as able to "make out the image on a postage stamp on the ground from a mile in the air, while flying past it at Mach 1". This official also stated that the DND was in negotiations with the United States Air Force and the US National Security Agency for a transfer of the technology, with both departments anxious to field it on their own aircraft and satellites.

Hogan also announced that the system has already been installed on the 20 CF-18s currently patrolling the no-fly zone in the Republic of Krajnika. The NATO effort has been ongoing since June 2011, after evidence surfaced that the Krajnik government was conducting "ethnic cleansing" operations against the Doldovan minority. Hogan stated that FEARS would allow NATO to better monitor Krajnik activity, and prevent war crimes against the Doldovars.

"If a Krajnik soldier so much as gives a Doldovan civilian a dirty look, with a FEARS-equipped aircraft flying overhead, we'll be able to see that".

Recent developments at the United Nations indicated the NATO operation may be winding down, as Russia is making headway with the Republic's government in arranging a ceasefire in the Krajnika civil war. Hogan did not comment on whether there were any plans to withdraw the Canadian Squadrons in the near future.

News From The Front: "The Sword", Milsim Night at Carnage Paintball

July 27th saw the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's first Milsim event, "The Sword", hosted at Carnage Paintball in Embrun, Ontario. Despite a relatively late announcement and promotion of the event, and an expectation of a low turnout of less than 20 attendees, a whopping 38 players turned out to take part in an exciting night of Milsim Paintball that evening! For those who couldn't make it, rest assured that there will be more events like it in the very near future for you to enjoy. In the meantime, here's a report on what took place that night. (Note that as I was too busy running around with the high turnout, I wasn't able to take any photos at the event).

Event: "The Sword", Ottawa Milsim Night on July 27th

Eliminate the other team - switch sides - eliminate the other team - switch sides - eliminate the other team - switch sides.

Up to now, this has been the dominant Paintball "model" in the Ottawa area. Ottawa is overwhelmingly a rec-ball town, with Milsim-oriented players forced to conform, and fire their tricked-out A-5s alongside players with Speedball markers, in standard Deathmatch and Capture The Flag rounds. But GET READY FOR A CHANGE!

Wednesday, July 27th, the Ottawa Milsim Coalition will be holding its first Milsim Paintball event. The event takes place at Carnage Paintball, from 6pm to 9pm (doors open at 5pm).

For details on the scenario at this event, check out this intel report.

The scenario will feature small-unit missions and objectives, military-style tactics, a limited ammo format, and PRIZES!
