Event: Cell Team Six
On Target Paintball in New Jersey will be hosting a mag-fed event on March 24, 2013 that the American (and border adjacent) milsim/mag-fed cadre should definitely check out. If you're interested be sure to check out the Facebook event page. Rental markers will be the RAP4 468, and the Facebook indicates that there will be a rent to own option the day of. As the retail industry says, "If they try, they'll buy!".

Rombo - Rick Santorum Paintball Ad
In an ad criticizing Mitt Romney for his alleged metaphorical mud-slinging, Rick Santorum has published a video wherein a Romney look-alike fires real mud using a Tippmann X7 Phenom with AK-47 accessories.

Top Paintball Sniper
I've seen a few IPSCish paintball offerings pop up from time to time in the past year, and there's certainly no lack of organizations and players labelling themselves as "paintball snipers" (yeah, go ahead, cringe away). Top Paintball Sniper is an organization trying to bridge these two groups together from the looks of things, and the participants certainly seem to have fun.
I believe they've had one round of competitions in the past, and this year's competition spans across 6 locations in North America. Namely: PEI, Ontario, Alberta, New Jersey, Illinois, and Oregon.

Marine Corps Needs Sharing Lessons
"Mine!" - Sergeant Major Carlton Kent (not really, but the same in not so few words)
Army Times reports that one of the major contenders to win the United States camouflage solicitation is MARPAT, but the pattern may not necessarily have an easy victory. The Marine Corps is looking to protect its investment in MARPAT and isn't exactly champing at the bit to relinquish the pattern. What does that mean? More opportunity for smaller developers like FEAR GEAR to get their fair shake! In the end I think this little bump in the road will prompt decision makers to take a more serious look at the myriad other cool alternatives that have been proposed.
Shout out to Jon for sending the mentioned article to me!

Sport Smoke Giveaway - Canadians Included!
Sport Smoke has run giveaways in the past, but until now they've been for the United States only. Myself and others had mentioned several times to them that they should run the contest for both the United States and Canada, and wouldn't you know it, they did it!
I saw Sport Smoke grenades in action for the first time this past weekend at the Hurt Locker 2 scenario held at PRZ in Picton, Ontario. I have to say, they worked better than I thought they would. My only gripe is that the retail prices for these 'nades is a bit over the top. Thankfully you have this contest to enter and win some freebies! Take note that the contest is only available to those that are 21 or older (I'm assuming because of the pyrotechnic nature of these devices).

Army Camoflage Improvement Effort Solicitation Cancelled
If you've been following the United State's "Army Camoflage Improvement Effort", then you'll know it's been delayed several times, culminating with it being delayed to today. Well it may be the early morning, but the word is out! The entire effort has been nixed, with the United States deciding to go with a cost effective and logistically less nightmarish solution. This is certainly the right way to go, as area specific camouflage is just complete hooey and what's truly important is a sense of visual coherence and solidarity.

Spring Camouflage
Is your fall camouflage no longer keeping you hidden? As people head back to their local paintball and airsoft fields this spring, keep in mind how the effectiveness of your camouflage may change. Here are what I consider some prime camouflage choices for spring in non-arctic Canada and the northern United States:
I know, I already used SURPAT as a choice for Fall, but this is a prime camouflage for the transition backwards and forward from Summer to Winter here in Canada. In my opinion, it greatly outperforms CADPAT when you're not surrounded by lush greenery, but still have lots of sprouting foliage around.

MultiCam & Fringe Science

J.J. Abrams' weekly sci-fi/weirdness television series Fringe is understandably focused on strange happenings. The show even features an alternate universe much like our own, engaged in a covert war with ours (and where a LOT of strange stuff goes on). A universe where the twin towers are still casting a shadow over Manhattan...
Where the U.S. DoD headquarters sits on Liberty Island...
And where U.S. Army troops in garrison wear...MultiCam? What?!?

First Run GTX + NIR Better Camo Images
Better Camo has published some pictures of the first run of their GTX pattern, displaying it in the visible and infrared spectrum. Jon of Better Camo was nice enough to send me some more unpublished pictures for your viewing enjoyment, so enjoy.
This run is part of their development process, allowing them to create a further improved pattern from any weaknesses seen.
