Breaking News: First Images/Video of D-Mags!

RAP4 has finally shown off (a prototype of?) their new D-Mag in their latest Youtube video. Check it out:

Pictured is the short 10-round version. Sexy!

Milsim Paintball Fan

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Forget typical mask mounted fans, if you really want to get an awesome defogging system, somebody should look into tricking out the new AVON EZAIR system.

Planet Eclipse's HDE Camo

I'm surprised they didn't call it omni-spec-digi-pat-cam. Most paintball companies that produce these vanilla patterns generally go with a name like that.

Sigh. I thought we were done with the whole speedball/camouflage brand confusion for the time being. But Planet Eclipse is taking a page out of Dye's book and have "created" their own camouflage apparel lined dubbed HDE. Here's some amusing ad copy:

Another Teaser

Another teaser, this time from Milsig:

You like this.

Operation End War 2

Grey Ops is huge on the promotion of limited ammo, and particularly mag-fed play, so it's great to see RAP4 continuing their End War game series with Operation End War II:

Tactical Performance Corp. A-TACS Gear Release

More licensees for A-TACS gear! Aww yeah.

One thing A-TACS/DCS has always nailed: badass product photography.

"Since 1991, Tactical Performance Corp. (TPC) has been designing a building high-performance tactical equipment and apparel for law enforcement an military units worldwide. With all manufacturing done at their in-house factory, they are easily able to meet the needs of the operator – wherever they may be. All TPC gear is designed and cut from U.S. printed fabrics and is rigorously tested using extensive feedback from end-users. Now, with the addition of A-TACS to their product line, and most notably the addition of items in 50/50 NYCO Ripstop, TPC offers an option tailored specifically to meet the needs of personnel operating in warmer climates.

More Gear = More Options

From plate carriers and chest rigs, to all manner of utility and specialty pouches, bags and packs, some of TPC’s A-TACS Nylon product offerings include…

Something New from Doug Brown

Doug Brown, current owner of Psiworx (|ˈsaɪwərks|) Solutions and mastermind behind many commercial ventures in paintball is teasing the Facebook world with a new image (possibly a logo?) with the tagline: "I was. I am. I will."

In my experience Doug has a penchant for the enigmatic and esoteric, so good luck pestering him for the meaning or purpose of the image or text, but I'm fairly confident it will be something that readers of Grey Ops will be interested in.

Ottawa Milsim Coalition Event: "Eagle Down" Last-Minute Details!

**BREAKING NEWS**

CANADIAN PRESS - Anonymous sources at Camp Vigilance in Greece have confirmed that Canadian ground combat troops landed at the base this morning, and may be taking part in an operation in the nearby Republic of Krajnika.

Sources stated that a platoon of special operations soldiers touched down at the base in a Canadian Forces jet at dawn. At this time their mission is not known, but it is believed that their arrival is related to the crash of a CF-18 aircraft on Monday afternoon. Canadian Forces spokesman Major General Dave Hogan confirmed that the aircraft, taking part in NATO's Operation Overwatch in Krajnika, had gone down. But he denied that the plane had been shot down by Krajnik air defences, as was reported by Krajnik State Television.

More to come as this story develops.

*********

For full details on the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event on Wednesday August 24th, "Eagle Down", refer to this post.

It's come to my attention that the directions on the Kijiji.ca listing for the event are wrong, so here are the proper directions to Carnage Paintball:

From Highway 417, take exit 79 for Limoges (the one for the Calypso water park) and head South. After about 2 minutes of driving, you'll come to an intersection with a gas station on your left. Turn left here, drive for another minute, and you'll see Carnage Paintball on your left.

The safety and rules briefing kicks off at 6pm sharp! Please be on time, since we'll be playing with limited daylight left. To fully enjoy the game, be sure to bring some sort of anti-fog for your goggles (humidity will be pretty high), and insect repellent is a must this time of year!

Action Gear Canada, Crypsis.ca, and Carnage Paintball have graciously donated prizes for this event, so 15+ people will be going home with something new for their gear bags!

Case of Shingles - WTFPB Milsig Mag Pouches

WTFPB has filled a big niche by now offering Milsig Mag Pouches in a shingle and double stacked pouch variety! Needless to say, this is a godsend for mag fed paintball players. Too long have we had very limited or even non-specific pouches to use our mags with. Check them out:

Mag Shingles (pictured in Multicam, with two of yours truly's magazines pictured with it :P)

Double down with a Double (stacked) Mag Pouch

As always, you can purchase anything from WTFPB directly from their website. Also, for Canadian customers (and others of course) that are interested, I've created a pre-order for the mag shingles on Crypsis, and will be putting a pre-order up for the double stacked pouches later on tonight.

A huge props to WTFPB for making these! You're going to make a lot of limited ammo players very happy.

Borg AKA Danijel Jagodic Death

Important: For those of you reporting or talking about this event (especially on social media platforms), there are specific guidelines that you should be following. If you're unaware of those guidelines, please contact me at Connor@greyops.net prior to posting any information online.

Most news I post on Grey Ops I'm really excited to post up, but this is piece of truly unfortunate news. Information is coming in that states that the very popular Croation paintball Youtuber Danijel Jagodic, also known as Borg or paintborg on Youtube, passed away early this morning. Some of his close contacts on TechPB and elsewhere are now reporting that he took his own life, with others having been contacted by Danijel earlier last night, asking for them to take stewardship of his Youtube channel.

Please remember that if you or someone you know is going through a tough time, reaching out is always the right call, and if your friends and family aren't available, there are many crisis lines that you can call with complete anonymity.

Here is an example of some of Danijel's fine work:

MK7P Tacamo Conversion Kit Review

It's impossible to ever be (completely) objective, you can go ahead and argue that with me, but I've already made up my mind about it and there's nothing you can do about it. That being said, there are certain things that always seem to evoke especially prejudiced or agenda laden opinions one way or another. The Tacamo conversion kit reviews I've seen thus far seem to be perfect poster children of such objects of subjectivity (that sentence makes my brain hurt). So, with that being kept in mind, here is my review of the Tacamo MK7P conversion kit (all other Tacamo kit reviews will be short addenda, as it's just not efficient to do entirely new reviews of each one, barring extreme unforeseen circumstances), with the goal of reviewing the conversion kit for what it is and does, not for what it represents and evokes feelings of from any party. That enough of a preface for you?

Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Department of National Defence officials have confirmed a report that a NATO aircraft went down over the Republic of Krajnika, and confirmed that the aircraft was a Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet.

"The status of the pilot is unknown at this time, but we do know he managed to eject", stated Major General Dave Hogan at a press conference this evening. "Right now the best intelligence we have tells us that neither Krajnik nor Doldovan forces have made contact with him". Hogan further stated that the terrain where the aircraft is believed to have gone down was difficult to reach by land, and that ongoing bad weather had made an airbourne search and rescue attempt difficult.

"Our first priority at this time is our pilot, and we're doing everything we can to locate him and get him back".

Canada has been participating in NATO's Operation Overwatch since mid-June, when evidence surfaced that Krajnik government soldiers were conducting "ethnic cleansing" operations against the Doldovan minority. The two sides have been engaged in a brutal civil war since January. Hogan would not confirm that the aircraft had been shot down by Krajnik forces, but pointed out that NATO bombings have heavily targeted the Republic's air defence network, and that most or all of it has been decimated.

"As far as we know the Republic of Krajnika has no SAM sites left, and if there's still one out there, that's news to us".

Complicating the issue is the recent announcement that CF-18s engaged in NATO's action are now equipped with the Canadian-made FEARS technology. The surveillance technology used in the Full-Enhancement Aerial Reconnaissance System would be highly sought-after by China and Russia. A DND official who wished to remain anonymous told Canadian Press that there were concerns that if the Krajnik government managed to obtain the technology, they would turn it over to one of those powers. A secondary concern is that the Krajnik government would keep the system instead, and use it as leverage to obtain advantages in peace negotiations currently underway at the United Nations.

To get in on the action, be there at the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event, "Eagle Down", on Wednesday, August 24th at Carnage Paintball! Details on the event can be found here. And if you believe this is a real news report, click here.

Tactical Balls - I Couldn't Make This Stuff Up

Remember the whole Centurio fiasco? Well Tactical Balls make Centurio products look absolutely devastating. By Tactical Ball standards, Centurio products should be banned by the CCWC.

Rather than explain their method of action, just watch this video demonstrating a Tactical Ball deployment:

Video Review of Grey Ops Contest Winnings

This past February we teamed up with WTFPB to give away an awesome vest set-up (in the most Canadian of all patterns, CADPAT), and reader John Wood won the contest. John's posted up a video reviewing the vest, so please check it out!

Stupid Paintball Stunt in Portugal

This video has made its rounds around Facebook and various forums already, but there's an aspect many aren't touching on, and that's the connection to the country it was filmed/aired in (being Portugal). The video, entitled "Guerra Paintball" (which, if you don't speak a Romance language, is translated into English as "Paintball War") was broadcast on 5 Para A Meia-Noite, a late-night talk show airing on RTP2.

Local Airsoft Love - LZ Ottawa

As you all know, this is primarily a blog focused on milsim paintball, but it's high time a little attention was paid to the Ottawa airsoft community, particularly the local field LZ Ottawa.

Located in Kinburn, just west of Ottawa, the field has been in operation for about 8 years, and this year is hosting roughly 20 events. One game of note coming up is their 24 hour scenario game on September 3rd. So if you're looking to get into airsoft in the Ottawa area, drop these guys a line or check out their forum for more info. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you.

Event: "Eagle Down", Ottawa Milsim Night on August 24th

Hot on the heels of "The Sword", the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next Milsim Paintball event, "Eagle Down", will be held at Carnage Paintball on Wednesday, August 24th from 6pm to 9pm!

For details on the scenario at this event, check out this news report and this one. Eagle Down will feature a race against the clock to a fighter jet crash site, defending or attacking a surface-to-air missile (SAM) battery, and a hunt for a downed NATO pilot!

The scenario will feature small-unit missions and objectives, military-style tactics, a limited-ammo format, and PRIZES! This time around Action Gear Canada will be contributing Milsim Paintball equipment to the prize pool, and Connor from Crypsis.ca will be showcasing his products (with some prizes of his own to give out as well)!

Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Republic of Krajnika State Television announced today that it had shot down a NATO aircraft taking part in Operation Overwatch. Translated from Old East Slavic, the communique stated:

"Comrades of this great nation, today the glorious soldiers of our air defence brigades scored a great victory for the Republic. A cowardly aggressor invading our airspace was brought down by their missiles and guns, and he will drop bombs on us no more. The aggressors have been shown that their interference in our sovereign affairs will not be tolerated, and that our armed forces will defeat them. Today marks a new chapter in the defence of our nation".

NATO spokespersons denied that any aircraft taking part in the operation over the Republic of Krajnika had been lost, with one stating "All of our aircraft and pilots have been accounted for. This appears to be more propaganda on the part of the Krajniks".

NATO's Operation Overwatch has been ongoing over Krajnika since June, after evidence surfaced that government soldiers were taking part in "ethnic cleansing" operations against civilians of the Doldovan minority during the country's civil war. The operation consists of patrolling a no-fly zone, as well as bombing air defences and military forces engaging in actions against civilians.

Stay tuned for event details on the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event, "Eagle Down", to be announced soon here on Grey Ops! And if you believe this is a real news report, click here.

The Grey Ops Short Bus #1

The Grey Ops Short Bus will be an occasional feature on Grey Ops that showcases the truly retarded in the world of Milsim Paintball, wherever they may be. We're talking people so retarded that they not only ride the short bus, they also wear a hockey helmet and sit up real close to the front so that the driver can keep an eye on them for liability reasons.

A couple of days ago I posted a mock news story as a teaser for the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's upcoming scenario event, "Eagle Down", which will be loosely-based on the wars in the Balkan states in the 1990s, and the NATO involvement in them. The fake article talked about a new photo-reconnaissance package being installed on Canadian fighter jets enforcing a no-fly zone in the Republic of Krajnika. Apparently some people didn't quite get that it wasn't real, and discussed it on a popular Milsim Paintball message board, with participants adding some...embellishments.

Now we've seen something like this before, and I won't post the link to the actual thread (so as to save the participants some real embarassment), but let's just say it wasn't pretty.

Crypsis Update #3 + Giveaway Announcement

Weekly giveaways:

I've been trying to figure out a good way of doing giveaways through Crypsis, so here's what I'll do. Currently Crypsis has 3 ways of connecting with you guys: Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Every week (for the time being), I'm going to give away something to somebody chosen at random from lists of "Likes", "Followers" and "Subscribers". But here's the catch, I'm not going to tell you what service I'm going to take the winner from! Sneaky, I know. The first giveaway will happen this following Monday, August 4th 2011 at approximately noon, and I'll give away an Olive drab 1 point sling with HK snap hook (worth about $12), shipped to anywhere in Canada or the US. Depending on how much interest this drums up, and how much I'm killed on shipping, I might restrict this to Canada in the future, but for now I'll make it available to both.

Attention Ottawa-Area Milsim Paintball Players: News Report

CANADIAN PRESS: Department of National Defence officials announced today the fielding of an advanced sensor and image capture package on all Canadian CF-18 Hornet fighter jets in service.

Canadian Forces Major General Dave Hogan held a press conference today, to hail the implementation of the Canadian-made Full-Enhancement Aerial Reconnaissance System (FEARS) on its planes.

"The future is here, and it's FEARS" announced Hogan. "This system demonstrates the will of the Government of Canada and the Canadian Forces to be a technology leader among our allies".

Hogan added that the FEARS modules would be transferred to the Joint Strike Fighter fleet when delivery of the JSF planes begins in 2016.

Although the exact capabilities of the FEARS package are classified, a DND official wishing to remain anonymous previously described it as able to "make out the image on a postage stamp on the ground from a mile in the air, while flying past it at Mach 1". This official also stated that the DND was in negotiations with the United States Air Force and the US National Security Agency for a transfer of the technology, with both departments anxious to field it on their own aircraft and satellites.

Hogan also announced that the system has already been installed on the 20 CF-18s currently patrolling the no-fly zone in the Republic of Krajnika. The NATO effort has been ongoing since June 2011, after evidence surfaced that the Krajnik government was conducting "ethnic cleansing" operations against the Doldovan minority. Hogan stated that FEARS would allow NATO to better monitor Krajnik activity, and prevent war crimes against the Doldovars.

"If a Krajnik soldier so much as gives a Doldovan civilian a dirty look, with a FEARS-equipped aircraft flying overhead, we'll be able to see that".

Recent developments at the United Nations indicated the NATO operation may be winding down, as Russia is making headway with the Republic's government in arranging a ceasefire in the Krajnika civil war. Hogan did not comment on whether there were any plans to withdraw the Canadian Squadrons in the near future.

Stay tuned for event details on the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's next event, "Eagle Down", to be announced soon here on Grey Ops!

Show WTFPB Your War Face

Or maybe we should say, "Zeig mir deine Krieg Gesicht!" (had to use Google Translate for that, please excuse me butchering the German language), because WTFPB is giving away an entire Flecktarn loadout via their Puller Vest in Basic Load format, and all you have to do is show them your war face! For specifics, go to WTFPB's Facebook page and check out the contest details.

A-TACS Green Variant Countdown

Yes, it's coming. As hinted at in a previous, post, there will be a green variant of the A-TACS pattern, now named A-TACS FG released in November 2011. Fellow canucks should start saving up for what will hopefully be a great new camouflage solution for our spring, summer and fall. For the countdown, check out A-TACS' home page.

News From The Front: "The Sword", Milsim Night at Carnage Paintball

July 27th saw the Ottawa Milsim Coalition's first Milsim event, "The Sword", hosted at Carnage Paintball in Embrun, Ontario. Despite a relatively late announcement and promotion of the event, and an expectation of a low turnout of less than 20 attendees, a whopping 38 players turned out to take part in an exciting night of Milsim Paintball that evening! For those who couldn't make it, rest assured that there will be more events like it in the very near future for you to enjoy. In the meantime, here's a report on what took place that night. (Note that as I was too busy running around with the high turnout, I wasn't able to take any photos at the event).

Top Paintball Sniper

I've seen a few IPSCish paintball offerings pop up from time to time in the past year, and there's certainly no lack of organizations and players labelling themselves as "paintball snipers" (yeah, go ahead, cringe away). Top Paintball Sniper is an organization trying to bridge these two groups together from the looks of things, and the participants certainly seem to have fun.

I believe they've had one round of competitions in the past, and this year's competition spans across 6 locations in North America. Namely: PEI, Ontario, Alberta, New Jersey, Illinois, and Oregon.
