Helikon-Tex à la PenCott

From Helikon-Tex's Facebook page comes the announcement that they will be producing uniforms in the PenCott camouflage family:
"[ENG] Combat Patrol Uniform™ (CPU™) is the first to be produced in PenCott™ camo. After that Combat Shirt, Bonnie Hat and BBC Cap will come. In Q3/Q4 2013 we plan to release a new Parka. More information about our cooperation with Hyde Definition available on http://www.hydedefinition.com/latest/?p=460
CPU™ Pencott™ will make its debut on IWA 2013."
No word on what variants will be released initially, but it's a fair bet (supposition) it will (hopefully) be the triad of GreenZone SandStorm and Badlands.

You can also read about the news here on Hyde Definition's website.

A-TACS LE Release

I'm a day late in my posting, but check out the new pattern variant released by DCS! Its moniker is A-TACS LE and is obviously targeted towards the law enforcement community. Here's the full release:

Columbus, Georgia-based Digital Concealment systems announces the introduction of the newest camouflage pattern in their line-up. As the name indicates, new A-TACS LE Camo was developed for Law Enforcement professionals. The pattern combines various shades of grey, blue and black and utilizes the trademark “organic pixel” look developed by DCS for its original A-TACS AU Camo pattern. A-TACS LE also incorporates variable angles and urban forms derived from photography and effectively utilizes an even blend of light and shadow to create unique pattern with a slight horizontal flow. Additionally, A-TACS LE Camo was developed to work with variable combinations of black or blue nylon gear and other equipment allowing municipalities and departments the option to easily upgrade their kit on an “as needed” basis, gradually phasing in new items while still maintaining a cohesive and uniform appearance.

A-TACS LE Camo joins DCS’s current pattern line-up that includes the original A-TACS AU Camo pattern designed for arid and urban environments and introduced in 2009, and A-TACS FG Camo, designed for foliated green environments, which was introduced in 2011.

A-TACS LE Camo will be available on a wide variety of fabrics and substrates including hydrographic film in the coming months. For additional information on A-TACS LE Camo, contact Digital Concealment Systems by e-mail at: info@a-tacs.com or, visit them online at: www.a-tacs.com.

A-TACS Camo and Schott Performance Fabrics announce a virtual ONE STOP SHOP for A-TACS Camo fabrics and Trims; also expands A-TACS Camo fabric printing to Duro Textiles

This is pretty awesome news for anybody wanting to make their own geat in A-TACS (or making your own gear in general). From DCS:

"A breakthrough opportunity for manufacturers of all sizes utilizing A-TACS Camo is now available. Due to high demand and to assist smaller manufactures who do not require large quantities of production fabric, Schott Performance Fabrics is now set up to take orders and distribute less than Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) on all A-TACS AU and A-TACS FG Camo fabrics. For domestic and international manufacturers requiring larger quantities of fabric, the ordering process will remain the same, simply contact Denise Barrick by phone toll free at: 877-720-4545 or by e-mail at: dbarrick@schottfabrics.com.

Peek at Hyde Definition's Metropolis

If you remember this post, you may find the below picture interesting:

This is a mock-up of the PenCott urban pattern now known as Metropolis. Lawrence Holsworth states that "It will work best in dim-light, built-up environments."Head on over to this Facebook post to make your opinion known, or as always feel free to fawn/smack/trash in the comment section below.

Get Snuggly With A-TACS

A-TACS is now available in soft and snuggly form! I can see this being popular with hunters in Canada, and given the weather we've been having in Ontario they could probably still get some use out of this before the fall rolls around. Release below.

Green and Tan

One thing that I've always liked about how airsoft games are organized is that teams are typically asked to wear either predominately green or tan (and respective variations) uniforms when playing, so as to eliminate confusion during play (friend or foe identification). What I've never understood is why we (as milsim/woodsball/scenario paintballers) don't carry that over into paintball. Armbands are a good system, and make things very easy for rentals or people that didn't expect to play that day, but I have yet to see a milsim paintball scenario adopt green/tan rules during registration. The rule normally applies to uniforms only (you can wear accoutrements in whatever colour you like), and most people I know that have been playing paintball with a milsim flavour for 1-2+ years have a few sets of uniforms just lying around, so it sounds like it would be easy enough. So come on field owners and event organizers, let's see someone try a green and tan rule paintball game! If you do, Grey Ops will be sure to showcase it.

Camouflage in Video Games: A-TACS in Ghost Recon Future Soldier

I'm glad I get to continue my Camouflage in Video Games segment, and in this case the news is straight from the horse's mouth! A-TACS will be featured as a pattern in Ghost Recon Future Soldier, and as seen in the promo photo above it looks pretty badass. Now Battlefield 3 just needs to follow suit and license some proper patterns for their expansions.

A-TACS FG Now Available in Hydrographic Film

In a move awaited by many, DCS has announced that A-TACS FG is now available as a water transfer film, available through TWN. Hydrographics seem increasingly popular with paintballers and airsofters, I'm sure this will be an easy sell.

PenCott Metropolis - An Urban PenCott?

If you're hoping for pictures of the tantalized pattern, you're out of luck, all I have is a name and even then it's not corroborated. But, in Sabre's (see this post) .pdf catalogue, the company lists a pattern called PenCott Metropolis. Here's the excerpt:

Interesting? I'd say so.

Info courtesy of Lawrence Holsworth.

Specops, of Poland, has developed some pretty awesome PenCott enpatterned (it's a word cause I say so, deal with it) clothing. On another note, apparently Polish forces have been testing clothing made by Specops in PenCott patterns in Afghanistan.

ADS Unveils Somewhat Familiar Camouflage

ADS, as partnered with Guy Cramer, has recently unveiled their new camouflage that has been entered into the camouflage improvement effort put forward by the US Army. You can read an article about it on Soldier Systems here.

Hey, remember how Guy Cramer was suing DCS, saying that A-TACS FG was essentially a duplicate of his patterns? Remember how everyone scratched their heads and wondered where exactly the similarity was?
