Enough Drowning Pool Already

I don't often go off on unreasonable tirades, but this is one of those rare occasions that merits a rant concerning something of no great importance.

For whatever reason, "Bodies" by Drowning Pool is an immensely popular video for us paintballers. I won't say I dislike the song, but because I spend way too much time on the internet, I come across it far too often. You need only peruse Youtube's paintball selection for several minutes before you hear it.

Here's an example of ten videos with the aforementioned song:

There could be a few reasons for the prolific distribution of Bodies...
  1. In fitting with a theme of mindless aggression, maybe it appeals to our community of adrenaline junkies (that's not a dig by the way).
  2. Many people see the phrase, "Let the bodies hit the floor" as an appropriate analogy for righteous eliminations.
  3. It's in Youtube's roster of songs that users may use to patch up a video that previously infringed upon copyright law.
Whatever the reason, let's please move past this song. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has grown weary of it.

If you're looking for an aggressive/adrenaline fueling song for your paintball video, please consider the following alternatives:
P.S. In the hopes of avoiding an overly ironic post, there are no links to "Bodies" in this article. I'm not a big fan of O Fortuna or Down With the Sickness either.

  1. Agreed, our media guy likes to use japanese tyko drumming in our vids, much better then the drowning pool nonsense.

+1 for Muse, if only for I love playing it on guitar hero :)

  2. I saw a great documentary with Michael Palin (from Monty Python) where he went to Japan and stayed/trained with tyko drummers. Those guys are intense. Every morning they get up and run ten miles, but because Michael was "venerable and out of shape" (or something to that effect), they only made him run nine miles. I think he was staying with the group that called themselves "Kodo" but I can't be sure.

  3. Honestly I love "Let the bodies hit the floor" but that is only because I listend to it almost everytime I rolled outside the wire in Iraq. But I have to agree...It seems like it is used alot in our sport. You gave some great alternatives and some songs for me to listen to tonight...

  5. I was at the Tactik Big Game today, getting my gear ready in the parking lot. 2 guys beside us start gearing up at their car too, and start playing music through the car's CD player. Guess what the first track was?
